"Unfortunately, these days, people hear controversial news about the Corona virus, which has concerned them.," Said Dr. Seyed Ahmad Hashemi.
Dr. Hashemi stated that the virus is 20 percent like common colds and added that 97 percent of people with the virus were cured and had no particular problems.
"The virus can cause symptoms like colds, such as runny nose, cough, mild fever, muscle aches, and so on, but it may attack the lung tissue in limited cases and make flu-like symptoms," he explained. Respiratory distress, decreased consciousness are symptoms of the virus in more severe cases. Death rate of coronavirus was one-third of the flu but the extent of the outbreak was higher than the flu,” he said.
He said that deaths from the disease have been reported in people over 60 years old and noted that "There is no age limit to the disease, even children get it, but the mortality rate and the severity of the disease is higher in people over 60 years old.
Dr. Hashemi said: To prevent spreading the virus and overcrowding in medical centers, it is best to treat the disease like a cold so as not to cause hospital staff fatigue and other problems. He added: "No corona virus has been observed so far in the country, but borders cannot stop the virus to move and is likely to enter the country; regular hand washing, use of disinfectants and sanitizers, avoiding close contact, kissing and hugging are recommended to stop spreading the virus. Dr. Hashemi emphasized that at present there is no need to use a mask and only people who are sick and have cold, must use masks.
