The MoU was signed following a visit by Dr. Sayed Abdul Khaleq Hashemi, Deputy of International Patients Department (IPD) at Afghan Uzbek Medical Hospital, to Imam Hassan (AS) Hospital in Bojnurd, where he visited the hospital’s telemedicine and international patient care facilities.

The visit was followed by a meeting with Dr. Ismail Garivani, Director of International Affairs at NKUMS. A key focus of the agreement is the development of telemedicine and health tourism services.

Under the framework of the MoU, the two sides will explore mechanisms for online medical consultations and preliminary assessments of Afghan patients, with patients requiring specialized procedures or surgery potentially referred to healthcare centers affiliated with NKUMS, in accordance with relevant regulations.

The agreement also provides a framework for cooperation in specialized medical and educational training, including in-person, online, and hybrid programs for physicians, residents, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

The exchange of faculty members, specialist physicians, and academic experts will also be pursued to support knowledge and experience sharing. In addition, the two sides discussed opportunities for the admission of Afghan students to NKUMS and the continuation of postgraduate medical education for eligible physicians in specialized and subspecialized programs.

Other areas of cooperation include joint research projects, academic and scientific information exchange, technology transfer, innovation, and the organization of scientific conferences, workshops, and other academic activities.
