Specialized meeting held with participation of private sector and NKUMS

Exploring strategies for developing health tourism

A meeting was held with the participation of officials from various executive bodies, private sector representatives, and North Khorasan University of Medical Sciences (NKUMS) to discuss opportunities and strategies for developing health tourism in the province.

According to the NKUMS Public Relations Office, on Monday, July 21, a meeting hosted by Imam Hassan Hospital focused on exploring the expansion of health tourism in North Khorasan. Dr. Garivani, Head of the International Affairs Office at NKUMS, highlighted the province’s medical potential, including highly skilled human resources and advanced equipment in both public and private healthcare centers. “From the moment a patient is referred by a travel agency to the completion of their treatment, high-quality medical services will be provided. Even after discharge, the patient’s condition will be monitored according to international protocols,” he said.

Mahrooqi, Deputy for Assemblies and Councils at Bojnourd Chamber of Commerce, referred to the recent launch of the Chamber’s Health Tourism Commission and emphasized its goal of fostering effective collaboration among public and private stakeholders—such as NKUMS, the Provincial Office of Cultural Heritage, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and travel agencies—to promote health tourism across the province.

Ebrahimi, Head of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Administration of Bojnourd County, pointed to the opportunity presented by travelers transiting through the province and emphasized the need to increase their length of stay. He also called for proper advertising and promotion of North Khorasan’s vast potential in wellness tourism and nature therapy alongside medical tourism.

Dr. Safikhani, Director of Imam Hassan Hospital, expressed full readiness of the hospital’s infrastructure and specialist teams to receive international patients, and announced the hospital’s willingness to cooperate with the private sector.

During the session, representatives from travel agencies and tour guides shared their experiences, concerns, and capabilities in the health tourism sector, underlining the necessity of intersectoral cooperation to strengthen this field. At the conclusion of the meeting, participants toured the hospital’s International Patient Department (IPD) and became acquainted with its hoteling and comfort services.
